These documents for Technology Coordinators provides information on hardware and software requirements for online testing, as well as network installation of the secure browser and guidelines for online testing environments. NOTE: Schools administering the HSA Science Assessment during the 2014 fall semester should continue to use the 2013-14 Secure Browser for testing. Schools will not need to download a new Secure Browser onto computers used for testing in SY 2013-2014. The current Secure Browser should be used to access the online testing system once the testing window opens. Technology Coordinators needing to install the current Secure Browser onto a computer not previously used for testing last year may continue to use the 2013-2014 HSAP Technical Specifications Manual as a guide throughout the 2014 fall semester. A new Secure Browser will be made available in late 2014/early 2015, and schools will be notified in advance regarding the deadline for upgrading to the new Secure Browser for testing in 2015. An updated 2014-2015 HSAP Technical Specifications Manual will also be provided at that time.

The 2013-14 grades 3 – 8 and 10 Bridge HSA Reading and Mathematics Assessments will measure students’ attainment of identified English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics Common Core State Standards that have been aligned with specific HCPS III items in the current online item bank. Students will be given two opportunities to take the Bridge HSA Reading and Mathematics Assessments and will receive reporting category scores for identified Common Core State Standards. The blueprints display the specific Common Core State Standards included in each reporting category by grade and subject.

 

The 2013-14 grades 4 and 8 HSA Science Assessments will continue to measure students’ attainment of all HCPS III standards and benchmarks using the current online item bank. Students will be given three opportunities to take the HSA Science Assessment and will continue to receive HCPS III reporting category scores. The blueprint for each grade displays the specific HCPS III standards and benchmarks included in each reporting category.

These sample score reports show a student’s best performance on the assessments for reading, mathematics, and science. They also show whether a student has reached proficiency in the different areas of reading, mathematics, and science, and suggest how the family can help him or her improve in these areas.

The student’s performance on the items is summarized in an overall test score referred to as the scale score. The scale scores are divided into four performance levels using three performance standards (i.e., cut scores). The scale score ranges for each performance level are provided in this table.

These optional score reports can be printed and sent to a student’s family after the administration of a Bridge HSA Reading or Mathematics Assessment opportunity. An interim score report shows a student’s overall scale score and performance level for assessment opportunity 1 or 2. It does not represent a student’s final score on the Bridge HSA Reading or Mathematics Assessment.

  • Students will NOT be permitted to log in if they are using the incorrect secure browser.
  • Mac OS 10.4 computers only support secure browser 5.6, regardless of processor type.
  • Some machines with Mac OS 10.5 were shipped with PowerPC processors; others with Intel-based processors. Please ensure you download the correct secure browser for these machines. To determine which operating system and processor your machine is running, go to the Apple (Finder) menu, and click “About This Mac.” The screen will display your operating system version and processor type.
