  • Smarter Balanced is piloting a new form of accessibility feature – Illustrations Glossaries. This new feature provides an alternate form of glossary for those students who might require it. Glossed terms in the Smarter Balanced assessments would provide illustrations in place of definitions. The Illustrations Glossaries would be particularly helpful to EL students or students who are hard of hearing.

The pilot study will involve Grade 8 students who would take the Grade 7 Math Interim Comprehensive Assessment (ICA). To learn more about how to participate in the pilot study and to see a demonstration of an Illustrations Glossary, please click here.

The Assessment Section has modified the Smarter Balanced Digital Library provisioning, i.e., access, procedures for Public Charter Schools (PCS) in order for the staff members to use their school email addresses instead of their Department of Education’s Lotus Notes email addresses to establish Digital Library login accounts. Please note that is is an option for Public Charter Schools and is not required.  If your Public Charter School is currently using the Digital Library with your Lotus Notes email addresses, then this does not apply to you. This process is to be used for creating Digital Library accounts for your current staff. As new educators enter a public charter school, they will need to contact the HSAP Help Desk at 1-866-648-3712 for assistance.  Schools are asked to identify a school contact who will assist the HSAP Help Desk with verifying new employees.  If you have any questions, please contact Ben Meyer, Test Development Specialist, Assessment Section, Department of Education, (808) 733-4100.
