Recent Announcements

  • Test and technology coordinators at schools using Macs for Smarter Balanced testing should not update their test devices to Mac OS High Sierra, as the Secure Browser will not work with this OS.  Test coordinators should immediately inform their technology coordinators and teachers using Macs for administering either the summative or interim assessments that they should not update their operating system, otherwise, the current secure browser will not work.  An announcement will be made through the Assessment News when an updated, compatible browser is available. REMINDER: Operating systems that become available but do not appear on the Supported Browsers page on the portal are not supported. Do not upgrade to new operating systems on computers that will be used to administer online assessments without ensuring the updates meet the required specifications.

  • The 2017-2018 Revised Smarter Balanced Interim Comprehensive Assessments (ICAs) will be available on Monday, October 16. The updated ICAs have been revised to reflect the format of the 2017-2018 Revised Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments (for more details please see the Smarter Balanced Summative Test Administration Manual). To prepare for the launch of the revised ICAs, the online Test Delivery System (TDS) will be unavailable on October 12-13. TAs will be unable to administer all Interim Assessments, including IABs and ICAs, during this downtime. Please ensure that students have completed and submitted all currently active ICAs in the online Test Delivery System no later than Wednesday, October 11. Beginning Thursday, October 12, students will no longer have access to any paused ICAs and all paused tests will be discarded. Scores and student responses for completed ICAs submitted prior to October 12 will continue to be available in THSS, AIR Ways, and ORS (as applicable).

  • Smarter Balanced is piloting a new form of accessibility feature – Illustrations Glossaries. This new feature provides an alternate form of glossary for those students who might require it. Glossed terms in the Smarter Balanced assessments would provide illustrations in place of definitions. The Illustrations Glossaries would be particularly helpful to EL students or students who are hard of hearing.

The pilot study will involve Grade 8 students who would take the Grade 7 Math Interim Comprehensive Assessment (ICA). To learn more about how to participate in the pilot study and to see a demonstration of an Illustrations Glossary, please click here.

  • The Smarter Balanced and HSA Science Parent Information Booklets (PIBs) are currently available in English and 14 translated languages and can be found in the General Information folder on the Resources page. Printed PIBs will be shipped and delivered to each school the week of September 18th. Each student’s home language in Infinite Campus has been used to determine whether a student will receive either an English PIB or a translated PIB in the home language indicated by their family. Please make sure the students receive either the English or translated PIB that they need. If your school does not receive their shipment of PIBs by September 29th, please contact the Help Desk.
