Resource Description

This Interpretive Guide is intended to help parents and educators understand how to read and find information contained in the family report. The cover letter is a document schools can print and send to parents along with the family report.

This resource provides a link to the answer keys for the Smarter Balanced Practice Tests, the HSA Science Training Tests and Practice Tests, and the EOC Exams Practice Tests.

The parents of home-schooled students who have registered their students at public schools or public charter schools need to be given the testing options included in Hawai‘i Administrative Rules, Chapter 12: Compulsory Attendance Exceptions.

This sample score report shows a student’s best performance on the HSA Science Assessment that may be taken three times. It also shows whether a student has reached proficiency in the different areas of science, and suggests how the family can help him or her improve in these areas.

The Parent Information Booklet (PIB) includes information for the grades 3–8 and 11 Smarter Balanced ELA/Literacy and Mathematics Assessments and the grades 4 and 8 Hawaii State Science Assessments. Printed copies of the PIBs will be delivered to each school in September. The number of English and translated PIBs provided to each school is based on the language spoken at home as indicated in Infinite Campus.

Participation and non-participation letters that schools may send to parents along with the Parent Information Booklet about the grades 3-8 and 11 Smarter Balanced ELA/Literacy and Mathematics Assessments and the grades 4 and 8 Hawaii State Science Assessments are available in English and 14 translated languages.
